My son has a "seewious" problem

Nick channel is suddenly unavailable and the most disappointed person in the world is my nearly two-year old son, Geeboy, and why?

He's been asking his mom all day for "Ming-Ming," and all she could do for him is to let him view the clips on YouTube.

Hey, who's Ming-Ming? It sounds like a cat to me. But no, Ming-Ming is a duckling and among the three heroes of the latest TV kid sensation (worldwide, probably), The Wonder Pets! from Nick Jr. The other characters are Linny the Guinea Pig and Turtle Tuck. Sailing on a "Frisbee" fly-boat made from things they find in the classroom, they travel the world to rescue animals.

What does Geeboy particularly like about Ming-Ming and the rest of the Wonder Pets? I think it is the operetta-like style of the show. Dialogues are sung by the Wonder Pets as they go about their "rescue" missions.

The characters look like clipped photos of actual animals, roughly animated to me, but a true delight to the kids around the house as I can see. Aside from the music, it's Ming-Ming's voice that appeals perfectly to my son, and the part of the song (in an episode he repeatedly watches on YouTube) where it says, "Mama... mama..." It is as if he's hearing himself calling his mom, I suppose.

Of course, the most reverberating line from kids across the globe today is: "Go Wonder Pets! Yay!"

Good thing, a local TV network airs a near-perfect Tagalog version that does not seem to reduce the spell on Filipino kids - and Geeboy is the happiest about it!
